A Great Deal for Academic Excellence - York College Persuasive Essay
A persuasive essay I wrote for my Critical Thinking class and a photograph I took that was published in The York Review 2013 issue:
York College of Pennsylvania – A Great Deal for Academic Excellence
Located
in southern Pennsylvania, York College boasts a reputation for its academic
excellence at an affordable cost for a private institution. YCP offers a wide
variety of academic and social opportunities that attracts students from all
over the country. With its close-knit community, the campus provides everything
from a fitness and community center, health services, on-campus jobs, several eating
options, and more; all of which are easily accessible by walking or by using
the campus-run shuttle service. You cannot go wrong choosing York College of
Pennsylvania as your home for the next four years.
YCP offers a wide variety of
academic resources for students from all backgrounds. With a diverse selection
of majors and minors, students choose a track to ensure success in their future
careers. Since class sizes average at nineteen students with a 15:1 student to
faculty ratio, students experience an intimate classroom that fosters building relationships
with their classmates and professors becoming mentors to their students.
Professors are readily available to meet and conference with students and
provide a memorable class experience with their vast knowledge. From computer
labs open 24/7, a library staff equipped to help with research, student and
professional-run tutoring services, and counselors to help at troubling times,
students are given all the resources to strive academically.
York College has an abundance of
social opportunities to encourage all students to join the YCP community. With
dozens of sport and intramural teams, student athletes become a team that helps
motivate one another by becoming a support system with their coach as another
mentor. From student senate to over a hundred clubs and organizations to fraternal
groups, there are many opportunities to meet others with similar interests and
make lasting friendships. The Campus Activities Board hosts a variety of
monthly events ranging from low cost off-campus activities, movie showings,
concerts, crafts, bingo, and more. York College ensures access to ample social
events, so students have the chance to relax and unwind with fellow classmates.
No one desires the hardship of
student loan debt for years after graduating college. York College has a lower
tuition rate than most comparable private schools at $19,000 a year. By
offering a wide variety of scholarships, 90% of all incoming freshmen receive
aid based on their academic achievements and financial need. With many
on-housing options, YCP is an affordable choice for the next four years of your
life. Commuting to York College is even easier if you live in the surrounding
area and provides many parking options; if not, YCP is close to many major
cities, like Baltimore, Washington D.C., and Philadelphia, so traveling to and
from home during breaks is rather convenient. With the amount of one-on-one
support and academic options, you cannot deny that York College is the best
deal for what you pay for.
York College provides me with an ample amount of
resources, so I am able to succeed in my studies and personal life. I, along
with my fellow classmates, are given many opportunities to socialize and make
lasting bonds with our classmates and professors within our majors and other
disciplines. I chose York College because it allows me to share my passion for
writing and will undoubtedly prepare me for my future, without leaving me
drowning in student debt. You will not regret your decision to attend York
College. Choose York College of Pennsylvania.
